How to read your energy bill (without the headache)
Energy bills look complicated, but only a few numbers really matter: your unit rate (pence per kWh), your standing charge (pence per day) and how many kWh you used.
Multiply your usage by the unit rate, add the standing charge for the days in the period, and you have the core of your bill.
Comparing these numbers is the fairest way to judge a tariff. Keep a recent bill handy when you get a quote.
