What I do

Three ways we’re making Waltham Forest greener

Everything here is community-led and independent — practical projects that help local people eat well, save money and look after the place we live.

Community growing

Allotments are more than gardening: fresh food for less, time outdoors, and neighbours who swap seedlings, tools and know-how.

Allotments & community growing

An allotment is more than a garden

Our plots are where sustainability gets practical. We grow real food a short walk from home, share what we learn, and prove that living well doesn’t have to cost the earth — or a fortune.

  • Sustainability

Fewer food miles, less packaging, home-made compost.

  • Food growing

Seasonal veg, fruit and herbs, grown the simple way.

  • Wellbeing

Fresh air, gentle exercise and a break from screens.

  • Community

Seed swaps, shared tools and friendly faces.

  • Living affordably

Home-grown food helps stretch the weekly budget.

  • Learning together

Beginners welcome — ask anything, get muddy.

Green Waltham Forest

Local action, working together

Real change happens when residents, growers, local groups and the people who represent us pull in the same direction. I’m proud to support green initiatives and community projects across the borough — always community-led and independent.

Supporting local green initiatives and community projects connected with Stella Creasy, MP for Walthamstow — bringing residents, growers and local groups together around positive, practical change.

Residents

Greener homes, lower bills

Friendly, jargon-free help with energy saving, switching to renewable tariffs and small changes that make homes warmer and cheaper to run.

Save money, live greener

Small changes, real savings

The same thinking that makes an allotment work — waste less, use what you have, share what you learn — works brilliantly at home too.

  1. 01

    Draught-proof first

Seal gaps around doors, windows and letterboxes. It’s one of the cheapest ways to keep heat in.

  2. 02

    Wash cooler, dry outside

Most loads come out clean at 30°C, and a washing line costs nothing to run.

  3. 03

    Get a smart meter

Seeing what you use in real time makes it much easier to spot waste.

  4. 04

    Cook seasonal, batch cook

Plan meals around what’s in season (or on the plot) and fill the oven when it’s on.

  5. 05

    Compost kitchen scraps

Less in the bin, free food for the soil — and it’s easier than you think.

  6. 06

    Switch to a renewable tariff

Octopus Energy supplies electricity backed by renewable sources. Switching takes minutes and your supply isn’t interrupted.

Why switch to Octopus?

Switch to greener energy and get £50 credit

I switched my home to Octopus Energy because they’re putting real money into renewables and their customer service is genuinely helpful. If you’re thinking about switching, using my referral link gets you £50 credit on your account.

  1. 100% renewable electricity

Octopus electricity tariffs are backed by renewable sources like wind and solar.

  2. Quick, simple switch

Takes minutes online. Octopus handles it with your old supplier and your supply isn’t interrupted.

  3. Helpful, human support

Real people you can reach by email, chat or phone when you need a hand.

  4. £50 credit via my link

Switch using my referral link and £50 is added to your account once you’re on supply.

Affiliate disclosure: some links on this site are referral links. If you switch to Octopus Energy using my link, we both receive account credit. It never changes the price you pay, and I only recommend things I use myself.

Good questions

Frequently asked

Can’t see your question? Drop me a message — I’m always happy to help.

How does the Octopus Energy referral work?

When you switch using my referral link or code, Octopus adds £50 credit to your account once you’re on supply. I receive credit too — it never changes the price you pay.

Will my energy supply be interrupted if I switch?

No. Switching supplier in the UK doesn’t involve any work at your home and your gas and electricity carry on as normal. Octopus arranges the switch with your current supplier.

How do I get an allotment in Waltham Forest?

Most allotment sites in the borough have waiting lists managed by the council or local allotment societies. In the meantime, come and help on a shared plot — it’s the best way to learn and meet other growers.

Is this an official council or MP website?

No. This is an independent, community-led website. I support local green initiatives and community projects, including work connected with Waltham Forest Council and Stella Creasy MP, but this site is personal and non-political.

I’ve never grown anything. Can I still get involved?

Absolutely — beginners are the best bit. Bring some gloves and curiosity; we’ll show you the rest.
